CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man involved in a SWAT situation at an apartment complex in northeast Charlotte Thursday morning has been charged.

Police say it started as a domestic situation, and children were believed to be involved. It happened at a unit at the Hunters Pointe apartments on Prospect Drive, as the man inside, identified as 32-year-old Lamont Mayhew, was reportedly making serious threats.

"Family members who were inside the apartment called 911 and advised that a male relative was inside the apartment and armed with a weapon, refusing to let them leave," CMPD said.

Just before 7:30 a.m., Mayhew surrendered and was taken into custody. No one inside the apartment was injured.

Officers evacuated the surrounding apartment units, and brought in a CATS bus to keep the briefly displaced residents warm.

Mayhew has been charged and placed in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
