CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Each week during the school year, Project L.I.F.T. selects a student who is excelling not only inside the classroom, but outside as well. The student - along with their favorite teacher - is featured every Wednesday on WBTV News on Bounce at 8 p.m. The program operates within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.
This week's scholar is Alana Moua, a 12th grader at West Charlotte High School.
Alana Moua is the second of eight children at West Charlotte High School in the IB Programme. She is an identical twin and plans to graduate as a member of the class of 2017.
Alana is a hard working student and not only works two jobs to help support her and her family, but is also taking a full course of IB courses. She is an exemplary student and has a 5.04 GPA.
Alana was selected to travel abroad this summer and consistently seeks opportunities to broaden her horizon beyond the classroom. She engages in local, school and community efforts to expand her learning experience. Alana is very interested in learning and sharing information about her Hmong heritage.
Last year she was the project lead for West Charlotte High School's International Day and seeks to enhance that experience this year in a leadership capacity.
She is currently exploring applications to Georgetown, UC Berkeley and Barnard College.
