Carlo Thomas and Kahj Huitt Earn CIAA Weekly Awards
Charlotte, N.C. (Oct. 11, 2016) – Johnson C. Smith University junior safety Carlo Thomas and freshman safety Kahj Huitt both earned CIAA weekly honors for their performances against Winston-Salem State this past week.
Thomas, a product of East Orange, N.J., compiled a team-high 15 tackles for the Golden Bulls, including eight solo stops, earning him the league’s Defensive Back of the Week award. In addition to his tackles, he also hauled in his fifth interception of the season in JCSU's 15-14 heartbreaking loss to WSSU. Thomas currently leads the CIAA in interceptions and ranks tied for second in the NCAA, one behind the national leaders.
Huitt earned Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season. Huitt finished behind Thomas with 14 total tackles with seven being solo. From Smyrna, Ga, Huitt also recorded three tackles for loss that totaled 12 yards.
JCSU will travel to CIAA Southern Division rival Fayetteville State on Saturday, Oct. 15. Kickoff from Luther “Nick” Jeralds Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m.
