CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A woman shot and killed inside a car in northeast Charlotte Tuesday afternoon has been identified as 29-year-old Chirrelle Nicole Scott, police said Wednesday.

The shooting happened around 5 p.m. near the intersection of North Tryon Street and W.T. Harris Boulevard. Police said they responded to a report of shots being fired into a vehicle. When they arrived, they found Scott, who had been shot inside a stopped vehicle at the intersection.

Scott was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Michael Scott, Chirrelle’s dad, said he thinks she was leaving work and heading home when she was killed. He doesn’t know why anyone would drive up and kill her.

From WBTV's Sky3, it appeared officers had a large area of the intersection taped off. At least two vehicles in the roadway, inside the police perimeter, appeared to be at the center of the investigation.

A number of bystanders gathered across the street to watch the investigation unfold. The crowd included Pastor Amere May Sr. of Abundant Faith Word Church.

“Everyone is tense in Charlotte and we have to come together as a community," said Amere. "This is not what Charlotte is all about.”

May Sr. said he came to the scene after some members of his congregation called him and told him they heard shots.

“I came up here to offer some solidarity, some prayer,” said May Sr.

Police have not said what led to the shooting, but said they were looking for a silver or gray car - possibly a Nissan Sentra - that may have been involved.

“We do not know the reason behind the shooting. We do not know a motive behind the shooting. We are asking for witnesses to come forward if anyone saw anything,” said Captain Brian Foley with the CMPD.

Westbound W.T. Harris Boulevard was closed at N. Tryon St. while investigators worked at the scene. The roadway was opened back up around 9 p.m.

Chirrelle Scott was the oldest of three kids. Her father shared a photo of her with her family from a while back. Michael Scott said his daughter worked at Howard Keys, which is close to the place where she was killed.

No one at her job wanted to comment on what happened.

Chirrelle's father said she had other jobs. She was a musical artist known as Connect Pacino, and she owned a business known as CP’s Jewels. Her cousin said she ran We Go Get It Entertainment and that everything she did was for her mother and grandmother.

Scott’s father is hoping that video cameras near the road will reveal who is responsible and that police will find that person.  The father said he would like to meet the person responsible so he can ask what makes them do something like that.

Police said the homicide investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
