Lang and Davidson Golf Finish Runner-Up in Ireland
WATERVILLE, IRELAND – Davidson’s Jake Lang (76-72 = 148/+4) fired an even-par 72 in Tuesday’s final round to finish second at 2016 Waterville Collegiate hosted by Rutgers University.
In addition to Lang’s fourth straight Top-20 and personal-best finish, the Wildcats (300-313 = 613) carded a final round 313 to place runner-up as a team.
The two-day / 36-hole event was played at the Waterville Golf Links.
In addition to Davidson and the host Scarlet Knights, Atlantic 10 foe Richmond also competed in the three-team field.
The Spiders (292-304 = 596) captured the team title, while Rutgers (303-315 = 618) finished third, five shots behind the Wildcats.
Richmond’s Matthew Lowe (71-72 = 143/-1) held on to his overnight lead to claim individual medalist by five strokes.
Michael Freeman (76-78 = 154), Spencer Papciak (73-83 = 156), Mike Blasey (75-85 = 160) and Hoke Carlton (81-80 = 161) rounded out the scoring for Davidson’s starters.
Will Simmons (80-76 = 156), Andy Simmons (81-80 = 161) and Kevin Carlock (82-88 = 170) competed as individuals for the Wildcats.
Davidson will enjoy a three-week break away from tournament action before taking part in the Bridgestone Intercollegiate hosted by UNCG, Oct 30-31.
