CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A home was destroyed after catching fire in east Charlotte early Monday morning.

The Charlotte Fire Department says the fire broke out at a home on Independence Boulevard at Rockway Drive.

The home was vacant and no one was injured. A woman who lived next to the burning house said police came to her door to escort her and her family out of their home, which sustained some damage.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 13 minutes.

The cause remains under investigation.
