Rowan County has been added to the Flash Flood Watch issued by the National Weather Service on Saturday as rain bands from Hurricane Matthew began pushing through the area.

The watch is in effect through 6:00 am on Sunday.

Moderate to heavy rain bands associated with Hurricane Matthew are expected to continue to bring showers across the area through Saturday night.  Rowan County may  get between two and four inches by the time the rain ends.

"Expect winds of 20 – 30mph during the day around the Charlotte Metro Saturday with gusts 30 – 40mph and closer to 50mph in the eastern sections," said WBTV meteorologist Al Conklin.  "These winds will be strong enough to bring down weak trees, large limbs and power lines leading to scattered power outages. Beyond, the rain and wind will both ramp down late Saturday, and by Sunday the skies will be clear and the weather pattern will be delightful for next week."
