JCSU Volleyball Falls at Livingstone, 3-0
Salisbury, N.C. (Oct. 6, 2016) – The Johnson C. Smith University volleyball team struggled in hitting only
-.051 and fell to rival Livingstone 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-16) in CIAA Southern Division volleyball play on Thursday night at Trent Gymnasium in Salisbury.
The Golden Bulls managed only 17 kills in the match, with sophomore
Anteesha Smoots (San Antonio, Tex.) leading the way with a team-high five. Junior Makayla Adams (Michigan City, Ind.) also aided in the JCSU effort, finishing with four kills.
Azha McNeil (Fayetteville, N.C.) had a productive evening, tallying 11 assists, nine digs and two aces.
The JCSU defense was paced by Georgina Diaz (Lincolnton, N.C.) as she managed a team-high 11 digs. Smoots also contributed on the defensive effort with eight digs.
The Blue Bears got eight kills from Jekisha Rhymes and Shantell Billups in the win. Stevee Cotton had 20 assists while Rukiya Garland had 18 digs.
With the loss, JCSU drops to 3-10 overall, 2-7 in CIAA play and 0-3 in Southern Division play. The Golden Bulls will hit the road on Monday, Oct. 10 for a 6:00 p.m. match at Winston-Salem State.
