Traffic stop results in nearly a dozen charges for Salisbury man

SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) -

A routine traffic stop on N. Church Street near 11th Street turned into much more once police discovered who they had in custody.

Just after 9:30 on Monday night officers stopped a car at that location, and when the car pulled over, a man in the passenger seat jumped and ran.  Police were able to catch up to him within a few minutes, according to the report.

Police identified the man as Altereck Rashad Shields, 36, of the 1000 block of N. Church St.  Police then discovered several outstanding warrants from the Thomasville Police Department in Davidson County.

Officers also found a green Crown Royal bag underneath the seat.  Ten grams of cocaine and a digital scales were in the bag, according to the report.

Shields was charged with resisting police, two counts of possession of stolen goods, possession of a weapon by a felon, three counts of trafficking cocaine, trafficking heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and a probation violation.

Bond was set at $200,000.
