Candlelight vigil for domestic violence victims to be held Tuesday night

A candlelight vigil to honor the victims of domestic violence will be held on Tuesday, October 4, from 7:30 pm until 8:30 pm on the steps of the Rowan County courthouse.

Organizers with the Family Crisis Council of Rowan County encourage people to attend in order to remember those that have died at the hands of domestic violence and honor those who have survived.

So far in 2016, 53 people have died in North Carolina in domestic violence-related cases.

A survivor of domestic violence will speak during the vigil. Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies will display cut-out figures that represent the "silent witnesses;" the people who have witnessed domestic violence.

In Rowan County, one out of three families has a domestic violence issue, according to the Family Crisis Council.

Just before the vigil, attendees may have their picture taken with the “I’m Taking a Stand Against Domestic Violence” sign as part of the "Take A Stand" photo shoot.  Organizers will share the photos on the Family Crisis Council Facebook page.
