Man charged with murder days after victim dies in hospital

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder in the death of William Lynn Phillips.

Phillips was taken to Novant Health Presbyterian by a family member on Tuesday night. According to police, Phillips, 45, was suffering from "trauma." Police said he died the next day. 

As of Friday, detectives were still trying to determine where the incident took place and whether there were any witnesses. A Sunday release states that police believe "the incident" happened on Pinckney Avenue near the NoDa neighborhood of Charlotte.

Homicide detective said they identified Daliamontray Decarlo Strother as a suspect and arrested him on Saturday.

Police did not release details about the nature of Phillips' injuries and did not say if the two knew each other.

Strother is facing murder charges and was being held by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
