CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Helen Schwab/The Charlotte Observer) - Fantasia Barrino has canceled what was described as a peaceful protest event that she had originally scheduled for Sept. 25, then postponed to this weekend.

“Hear Me Now – All Lives Matter” was first described as an effort to build unity after the fatal police shooting of Keith Lamont Scott Sept. 20 and the protests that followed. Plans were to hold it at Romare Bearden Park.

She was not immediately available, but a spokesperson confirmed that a post on both her Twitter and Facebook accounts was a cancellation.

Those posts both said:

The Washington Post reported Tuesday that Barrino “drew criticism” for the "All Lives Matter" part of the title, noting that Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer and Fetty Wap have also been criticized for using that phrase. Supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement have said that its point is to “illustrate the extent to which black lives have not mattered in this country,” as the New York Times quoted Princeton professor Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor saying – not that other lives do not matter.
