Former congressional candidate, ex CIA officer charged with prescription drug fraud

IREDELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

An Iredell County attorney who ran for the United States Congress in the most recent election primary has been charged with prescription drug fraud.

George Edward Rouco, 41, turned himself in at the Iredell County Jail Tuesday, where he was charged with three counts of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud/forgery. He was released on $3000 bond.

Mooresville police announced Rouco's arrest Wednesday, following an investigation by police and the SBI.

Rouco, 40, was also formerly an officer with the CIA, according to his campaign materials.

Rouco ran in the Republican primary for the 13th District congressional seat in May of this year.  He was one of seventeen candidates vying for the spot eventually won by Ted Budd

Rouco finished 12th in the primary with 773 (2.4%) votes.
