Anson Co. woman charged with murder in killing of boyfriend

ANSON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

An Anson County woman is accused of killing her boyfriend during an argument Saturday morning. 

Andrea Nicole Hammond, 31, is charged in the shooting death of her boyfriend, Rodney Smith. 

Anson County deputies were called to a shooting on Highway 109 in North Wadesboro around 10:37 a.m. When they got to the scene, they found a man, later identified as Smith, lying in the driveway with a gunshot wound to the neck. 

Smith and Hammond were at another person's home when they got in an argument and Hammond shot Smith, police say. 

Hammond is charged with first-degree murder. She was placed in the Anson County Jail without bond. 

The SBI is assisting the ongoing investigation.

Hammond is expected to appear in court Oct. 14.
