JOHNSON C. SMITH: Wright and Lambrecht Earn CIAA Honors

JCSU’s Basir Wright and Matias Lambrecht Earn CIAA Weekly Honors

Charlotte, N.C. (Sept. 26, 2016)  The Johnson C. Smith University football team had two players earn CIAA weekly honors for their performances against Elizabeth City State the league announced on Monday.

Sophomore Basir Wright (Douglasville, Ga.) earned CIAA defensive back of the week honors after collecting 10 tackles against the Vikings, seven of which were solo stops. Wright also had a half sack and two pass breakups.

Senior kicker Matias Lambrecht (Venice, Fla.) knocked in the game-winning field goal from 33 yards as time expired, his first career field goal, earning him the CIAA Special Teams player of the week for the second consecutive weekly honor.

Lambrecht also punted for an average of 50.7 yards on the day, with all three of his punts going at least 50 yards, with the longest going for 57. He also converted all four of his point after attempts on the afternoon.

The Golden Bulls (1-3, 1-0 CIAA) will travel to CIAA Northern Division opponent Chowan on Saturday, Oct. 1. Kickoff from Garrison Stadium is set for 6:00 p.m.
