Threats were made against Central Cabarrus High School on Twitter Monday morning and it has some parents concerned.

Photos posted from an unknown Twitter account show a masked figure holding weapons. Captions on the photos are directed at a Central Cabarrus High School Twitter account and reference bullets being fired on Friday.

Law enforcement officials said they are looking into the threats, and extra officers will be at the school during the next few days.

Parents told WBTV they received automated messages from the school alerting them to the threats, and they are concerned about the situation.

“There are a lot of kids at Central Cabarrus High School and there are a lot of parents wondering, ‘are we even safe?’” explained Lisa Smith.

Smith’s daughter, Kayla, is a senior at Central Cabarrus High School. The student said she had seen the tweets earlier in the day, and most of her colleagues assumed the threats were fake.

“It’s a stupid thing to do and everyone’s laughing at it, but it just needs to stop. It’s not funny,” said Kayla Smith.

Both Smith’s want the person responsible held accountable for their actions.

“I hope that they find out who this kid is and find him and arrest him,” said Lisa Smith.

The worried parent said she is going to keep her daughter safe, even if it means missing some class time.

“I’m more than likely going to keep my kid home the rest of the week just for her safety,” said Lisa Smith. “I hope that there’s a lot of other parents that tend to do the same thing.”
