CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A water main break in east Charlotte Monday morning is expected to keep part of Independence Boulevard shut down through noon Tuesday.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the 6800 block of Independence Boulevard was shut down due to the break. Traffic was being diverted to Wallace Lane to Monroe Road. Drivers can then turn left onto Sardis Road north and get back onto Highway 74.
The problem started around 1 a.m. Monday, according to Charlotte Water.
The water main break affected traffic throughout the day Monday and into Tuesday, especially in the morning hours as students headed back to school.
Monday evening, officials said one lane had been opened. Officials hope to have repairs complete by noon.
