ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - A woman is facing animal cruelty charges after police say she left her small dog inside a hot car while she went inside a store to shop.
Officers in Rock Hill were called to the Dollar Tree along the 2300-block of Dave Lyle Boulevard two weeks ago after a man spotted a dog inside a vehicle.
According to the report, the windows were up and there was no water inside the vehicle for the dog. It was in the lower 90s outside at the time and the dog was "panting profusely."
When officers arrived, they found the small dog, alone, inside a gold Kia Sorrento. The man who called police said he'd been there for nearly 30 minutes and hadn't seen the owner.
Tammy Hagy, 58, came out of the store five minutes after police arrived and opened the vehicle and the dog was given some water.
Hagy told officers she "did not believe that she was going to be inside [...] for that long," according to the report.
She was charged with cruelty to animals.
