CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A WBTV viewer in south Charlotte captured video Wednesday afternoon of what she said was lightning striking a home after a large tree had already fallen on the roof.

The video, which was taken just before 6 p.m. from the window of a home on Garden Terrace in the Dilworth neighborhood, was sent in by Rachael DeCurtins. It shows strong rain and winds in the street out front of the house.

The video shows the home across the street, with a very large tree that appears to have fallen on the roof. Just as DeCurtins jokingly comments on almost losing a garbage can she forgot to bring in, a large boom can be heard as a bright light explodes from the tree.

DeCurtins said the lightning in the area was "crazy" at the time, and that there was "intense wind and rain."

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect for the area at the time the video was taken. Heavy rain, strong winds and lightning were reported across the vicinity.

Officials have not released details about the home that was affected, or said if any injuries were reported.
