WEATHER BLOG: 90s streak coming to an end

(WBTV) (WBTV)
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

We've finally got a weather pattern change coming for the mid-late week, which means that after 17 days straight in the 90s, we can finally rejoice as temperatures in the 80s are returning (for more than a day)!

We only had 1 day throughout the entire month of July that was below average.. that day was July 16th and we haven't seen below-average temps or the 80s since then. That is, until today! Furthermore, the last time we had temps in the 80s for 3 days in a row was June 17th-20th!

The pattern change is due to wind turning out of the east along with a front stalling out just to our south, which will keep clouds in place and more showers around over the next 3 days, contributing to those temps holding in the 80s.

While we do catch a break from the high heat, the humidity won't be going anywhere.. so while it won't be as hot it will still feel sticky at times, and the heat index may still make it feel like 90° during the afternoon, even if it isn't.

Being as it is still summer, we know that we probably aren't getting rid of the hot temps for good, and it looks like the weekend will bring the low 90s back.

However, one more encouraging fact is that beginning Saturday our average high comes down from 89° to 88°, meaning that we will be past the climatological hottest part of the summer, when our average temp is the highest. As the average high slowly comes down throughout the rest of the month, you can bet our temps will as well.

It will be football weather before we know it!
