BLOG: Calm before the football storm

After a long, hot summer it is FINALLY football season.  Of course it will still be scorching hot, but the Carolina Panthers will report to Wofford tomorrow to begin the 2016 training camp.

First practice will be on Thursday and the big question will be, can the Panthers get back to the Super Bowl?  That is the question most fans will ask, but for the team, it will be can we get better today?

Sure the excitement is high for Panther nation, but the excitement level is high at the high school level too.  They strap it up officially Monday morning in both North and South Carolina.

The biggest question for me will be can Mallard Creek or Shelby pull the rarest of feats and win their 4th straight state title.  That's right, I said their 4th straight title.

That is very rare as only 3 programs in the entire state of North Carolina have done that since 1980.

The most notable is Independence as the Patriots won 7 straight state title from 2000-2006.

Greenville Rose won 4 straight 4A title from 2003-2006 and Robbinsville won 4 straight 1A titles from 1980-1983.

Don't forget, our Football Friday Night annual preview show will be August 12th and the first game will kickoff on August 18th and it is a good one.  A.L. Brown at Concord in the Battle for the Bell.  The longest continuous rivalry in North Carolina.

College football has a couple of more weeks before they get started, but for now, how sweet it is to FINALLY have footballs flying thru the air in 100 degree weather!
