WBTV Speak Out Editorial: A Conversation on Race, Violence, Community Issues

WBTV Speak Out Editorial: Conversation on Race, Violence, Community Issues

"Speak Out" is an expression of opinion from the Editorial Board of WBTV, and is presented by General Manager, Scott Dempsey.

Shootings…Bombings…Trucks used as weapons…
It’s been a devastating few weeks in the United States and around the world.
Too many families have lost their loved ones to violence.
You’ve seen the interviews where wives mourn the loss of their husbands and mothers weep as they talk about their children taken too soon.
You’ve probably also seen an overwhelming number of posts and opinions on Facebook about the shootings in Baton Rouge, Minneapolis, and Dallas.
Conversations about race and gun violence can be uncomfortable, and frankly, can get heated quickly.
Still, we believe having conversations about those topics is important.
We want to talk about the state of our community...what challenges do our officers face in the field?
And what kinds of grassroots efforts are in place to make positive changes in our community?
On Tuesday, August 2, at 8pm WBTV’s Steve Crump and Molly Grantham will be joined by local leaders to talk about issues facing our community in a one-hour Primetime special.
And we hope YOU’LL join us in that conversation.
Check back with WBTV’s social media platforms as we get closer to the special so you can let your voice be heard and participate in the discussion.
We hope this gives you an opportunity to learn more about what’s being done in our community to keep us all safe…and we’d love to hear your suggestions.

Tell us what YOU think. SpeakOut@wbtv.com
