Before you play Pokemon Go or any smart phone games, a warning

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

If you play the hot smart phone crazy Pokemon Go, or any other smart phone app game, there are a few things you have to think about.

WBTV Cyber Expert Theresa Payton offered a checklist for you before you agree to play any game on your phone.  Her advice follows:

Safety tips:

1.  Check the games settings and make sure it's not accessing "all" of your personal information.

2.  Use a unique email address

3.  Tie in app purchases to a pre paid gift card and not your debit or credit card, you can always fund the gift card but this makes sure nobody in your household runs up a bill that requires a 2nd mortgage to pay it off

4.  Stranger danger still applies - if you are going into uncharted areas or meeting new people, even if they are playing this game, be aware of your surroundings

How does it work?

All games / apps

Many of these apps tap into the latent value of tracking you via the phone at your side all day if you don't lock down their access
