Crime Stoppers: CMPD seeks quick acting fast food bandit

Quick holdup of fast food restaurants

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte Mecklenburg Police believe the same man has held up several fast food restaurants around the city. Detectives are asking  the public to help them identify a suspect.

All the robberies have happened at closing time. The man, armed with a handgun, rushes in, grabs the cash and is gone in less than two minutes.

The most recent armed robbery happened at a Jimmy Johns in north Charlotte. Surveillance video shows workers cleaning up and chatting when seemingly out of nowhere comes the man with the gun.

"He's pointing the gun directly at (employees) especially with this one at Jimmy Johns," said CMPD Detective Tori Roddey. "They are just sitting there talking and next think you know they are going back because the guy points the gun at them and he leads them to the safe."

The video shows the man wearing a mask, a dark blue Gap hooded sweatshirt and black and white Jordan basketball shoes. Roddey says it is the same general description of the person who held up other restaurants and in one of the other cases the Gap sweatshirt was gray.  In all the cases the robber moves fast.

"He's there a minute and a half tops," said Roddey. "So, he's pretty much getting in and out pretty quick."

The video doesn't give a clear view of the man's face, but investigators are convinced someone know who it as and CMPD wants him off the streets before someone gets hurt.

"You never know when somebody is going to do something stupid or he decides today's the day I'm going to shoot somebody so we need to get this guy off the streets," said Roddey.

If you have information that could help identify the suspect call Crimestoppers at 704-334-1600. The reward in this case tops $500.
