CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - It was hard to watch the scene in uptown Charlotte Friday afternoon and not well up with tears.
About a dozen students from Paul Mitchell the School turned out at Trade and Tryon Streets to hand out nothing more than simple hugs.
"We need these more, especially today," said one woman who was taken by surprise by the group, then very willingly accepted the offer of a little human kindness.
The group hugged hundreds of people on one of the hottest days of the year. Very few people actually turned down the offer.
Officers with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department were especially grateful - and they were especially hugged.
Children, adults, and even a puppy were recipients of the "free hugs."
And there on the corner in uptown Charlotte, even if for just a few minutes, everybody was happy.
