Do you ever get worried when you see a puddle underneath your car that certainly wasn’t there before? It can be worrisome when you see that your car is leaking! However, it’s difficult to understand what’s actually leaking underneath your car at first. It could be a simple fix or it could need a major repair. To help you better understand what and why your car is leaking, our Toyota Service Center in Charlotte is explaining car leaks.

Toyota service tips for car leaks

You parked your car in the driveway overnight, and when you left this morning you noticed a puddle on the pavement from where your car was just parked. What do you do? Take a minute to investigate what is leaking from your car using this guide from our Charlotte Toyota Service Center techs.

Does the liquid have a yellow tint to it? If the liquid leaking from your vehicle looks to be yellow, this is an indication that your brake fluid is leaking. Brake fluid often resembles the color and consistency of cooking oil. If this is the case, consider have your car towed into our Toyota Service Center in Charlotte in case your brakes fail.

Is the puddle dark and has a strong scent? If the scent is that of gasoline, you should have this leak fixed soon. While a gas leak isn’t usually an immediate danger, it can be costly. Even a slow leak can cost you more and more at the gas pump each week.

Is the liquid bright or have a green tint? A green or brightly colored liquid is a sign that you need to visit our auto service center! This means that you’re leaking coolant or anti-freeze. This leak determines that there is something wrong with your engine’s cooling system, like a hole in the radiator. This auto repair should be done soon to prevent your car from overheating.

Does it look like a honey or light brown color? These droplets of thick brown liquid are quite possibly the motor oil leaking from your engine or oil pan. The color or tint of the liquid depends on the age and condition of your oil. If you have recently had a Charlotte oil change, the color will be a light honey color.

Did you spot red fluid leaking? Red fluid is a red flag! This reddish fluid is your car’s transmission fluid leaking. If you choose to drive with a transmission fluid leak, you could end up stranded on the side of the road. For a transmission fluid leak, get your car to our Charlotte Toyota Service Center ASAP!
