We're monitoring news out of Minnesota this morning. A man died Wednesday night after being shot by police during a traffic stop. The chaotic aftermath of the shooting was caught on video by the man's girlfriend on Facebook's live-streaming service. The original post has since been removed from Facebook, but it was shared more than 50,000 times.
The search will resume in Lake Wylie at 8 a.m. for a person who went into the water, but never came back up. The incident happened just before 9 p.m. on the 16300 block of Harbor View Road in southwest Charlotte, just near the North and South Carolina state lines.
Mecklenburg County Commissioners questioned Mecklenburg County's Health Department last night about the brain-eating amoeba found in high levels at the US National Whitewater Center. The rapids at the Whitewater Center have been closed since June 25, but the rest of the center has remained open.
We're on your side investigating after Mecklenburg County officials discovered elevated levels of arsenic in Mountain Island Lake, one of the primary sources of drinking water for Charlotte. WBTV learned the arsenic came from the Duke Energy Riverbend Steam Station's coal ash pond, where Duke has been decommissioning the basin. Duke officials said in order to remove the coal ash, they have to get the water out.
