Man charged with murder after weekend shooting in Statesville

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

A man was arrested Monday afternoon and charged with murder after police say he was involved in a weekend shooting that left a 51-year-old man dead.

According to police, officers received a tip that Desmond Thompson was in the Windrush Apartments on Signal Hill Drive Monday afternoon. They found Thompson at the complex and arrested him without incident.

Thompson is accused of shooting 51-year-old Anthony Eugene Harper Saturday afternoon. Harper was taken to the hospital and died Sunday.

Harper reportedly told police before he died that he was shot during an argument, then the shooter ran away. Police said 36-year-old Thompson, from Iredell County, was connected to Harper's death.

He was taken before a magistrate, and is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center without bond for one count of murder.
