CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

Molly Grantham has signed a long-term contract extension with WBTV.  Grantham is a two-time Emmy® Award-winning investigative journalist who anchors WBTV News weekdays at 5:30 p.m. and 11 p.m.  She is also one of the market’s top social media personalities with an audience of more than 90,000 followers across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. 

“We are excited to keep Molly as an integral contributor to the WBTV News effort,” said Scott Dempsey, Vice President and General Manager of WBTV.  “She’s a team player who cares about the community and spends countless hours championing various civic causes.  I know that she is looking forward to continuing her good works, both on and off our air.”

Since arriving in 2003, Grantham has had a tremendous impact.  She participates in many community events and her award-winning coverage of cannabis (CBD) oils, a type of medical marijuana, led to legislative change in North Carolina.

The UNC-Chapel Hill alum’s “#MollysKids” series is closest to her heart, as it uses her influence to advocate for hundreds of local families facing uphill medical battles.  The awareness generated by those reports often leads to much-needed assistance for children fighting cancer, rare genetic diseases or babies born prematurely.

“I’ve grown to believe Charlotte is one of the best places to live in this country with some of the most giving people who have the largest hearts,” said Grantham.  “I am honored to be a longtime part of WBTV News, grateful I can raise my kids in this community and sincerely thrilled to call it home.”

Grantham also annually emcees one of the area’s largest fundraising events – Charlotte’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.  Both her mother and grandmother are breast cancer survivors and her great-grandmother died from the disease.  Each year, she organizes “Team Molly” on behalf of WBTV News and it consistently ranks as the event’s second-largest team with more than 800 participants.

Raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and Pinehurst, North Carolina, Molly has called Charlotte home for more than decade, living here with her husband and two children.
