Fathers celebrated for leading, loving and giving back

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For the last nine years I've been a part of an amazing celebration of dads. And I can't wait for this Friday, June 17, as we highlight four local fathers who are not only excelling in their careers, but have found a way to balance careers while still being actively invested in their kids' lives.

The 16th Annual Father of the Year Awards benefits The American Diabetes Association and is a huge fundraiser for the organization. Locally, the event has raised over $5,000,000 towards research, advocacy and educational programs in the last fifteen years.

The four fathers who will be recognized this year are:

  1. Jeffrey “JB” Brown, Chief Executive Officer at Ally Financial. Brown is a nearly 20-year veteran of the banking/finance industry.  JB, as friends call him, joined Ally Financial in 2009 and was named CEO in 2015. JB and his wife, Sara, have three kids.
  2. Fred Hargett is Chief Financial Officer Novant Health. He’s a veteran of health care finance and consulting for 20 years. Fred joined the Novant Health system in 2003. Fred and Diane have two kids.
  3. Mike Lamach is Chairman and CEO Ingersoll Rand. Mike has been with Ingersoll Rand since 2004 and was named Chairman of the Board and CEO in 2010. He’s married to Mary and they have three grown sons in their 20s.
  4. Malcomb Coley is Office Managing Partner EY and an Assurance Partner with a 25-year career at the firm. Tammie and Malcomb have four children.

Friday we'll hear from all the kids about the amazing influence their dads have had on their lives. We'll also have several previous award recipients in the audience.

I have to note, these dads go beyond just accepting this award, for which they were nominated. They work with the Father's Day Council to raise funds for the American Diabetes Association of Central Carolinas. So far this year they've already raised over $575,000.00.

This year will also mark the end of an era. For over 20 years, Dianne Roth has lead the Charlotte office of The American Diabetes Association. This year she's retiring.

Dianne always give 200% to her job and been committed to making sure the Father of the Year award ceremony is one of Charlotte's premiere events and hugely successful fundraisers. I have enjoyed working with Dianne for almost a decade. We really have become good friends in that time. She makes hosting the event a breeze because of her keen attention to detail. She also makes sure it is a wonderful night these families will never forget.

Dianne, for all the lives you touched these last twenty years, Thank you!!

I'll be sharing pictures of the event on Twitter and Instagram.
