#CarolinaStrong Book Drive honoring Cynthia Graham Hurd

Cynthia Graham Hurd Foundation for Literacy and Civic Engagement – this is a new foundation, announcement took place late April

WHAT:

A month-long (June) promotion to collect books for children in need. 

WHY:

In honor of Charleston 9 shooting victim Cynthia Graham Hurd.

Cynthia Graham Hurd was a librarian in the Charleston area, there has been a library named after her in Charleston.

She also has ties to Charlotte & her brother, former Senator Malcolm Graham, lives in Charlotte currently.

The Cynthia Graham Hurd Foundation for Literacy and Civic Engagement is partnering with Reading Partners to collect books in the month of June for elementary and pre-schools in the Charlotte area who are in need.

HOW:

WBTV and WCSC will mention during Newscasts, as well as web/social pushes encouraging viewers to drop off gently used or new children’s books. Most-needed books = children’s books appropriate for kids Kindergarten through Middle School.
