UNION, S.C. (AP) - Investigators say a man who was shot by a police officer led other officers on a high-speed chase through two counties in South Carolina. Union County Sheriff David Taylor said 29-year-old James Kershaw eventually pulled over, but deputies had to break his window to take him into custody after he lost a lot of blood. Authorities say Kershaw was shot in the shoulder around 2 a.m. Thursday during a struggle as Spartanburg police officers tried to remove him from a stolen car.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - The insurance fund used by the state of South Carolina has paid more than $120,000 to settle the first of several lawsuits against a county recreation agency and its director. Records from the Insurance Reserve Fund show Andrea James was paid $53,000 for her lawsuit against the Richland County Recreation Commission for harassment suffered when she was the agency's chief financial officer. The State newspaper reports records also show lawyers were paid $67,509 to defend against James' lawsuit.

LADY'S ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 25-year-old man has been found shot to death and the 19-year-old nephew with him is missing in South Carolina. Beaufort County deputies said Robert Blanding's body was found on a road in Lady's Island on Wednesday. He had been shot several times. Investigators say Blanding's family told them he was last seen leaving his nephew Chaz Blanding's house Tuesday evening.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (AP) - A car crashed over an embankment in South Carolina, killing two people and injuring a third person. North Augusta police say the wreak happened shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. Two people were dead when officers arrive, the third person was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The names of the victims have not been released.
