WAYNESBORO, Ga. (AP) - A federal agency is seeking a $145,000 fine for safety violations by employees at the Plant Vogtle nuclear plant in Georgia. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said in a news release that investigators found at least 13 system operators on multiple occasions failed to perform required checks of plant conditions and equipment.

ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Officials say a woman found dead in a burning mobile home in South Carolina died from smoke inhalation. Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman told local media that 45-year-old Kimberly Michelle Grant died in the fire that was reported around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters said the home was engulfed in flames when they arrived.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A study says the parts for two nuclear reactors abandoned during construction in South Carolina last year could be worth more than $860 million. The study was prepared by a national engineering firm for South Carolina Electric & Gas Co. before the utility and the state-owned Santee-Cooper decided to drop construction after spending $9 billion.

WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) - Two people have been arrested in a hit and run death of an 11-year-old South Carolina girl last weekend. Nineteen-year-old John Melvin Miller Jr. of Seneca was arrested Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death. The owner of the vehicle has also been charged with filing a false police report. Emmalee Budrevich was struck and killed Saturday night as she tried to cross a highway.
