WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - Prosecutors in South Carolina say a bullet in a wounded security guard shifted enough after a year to be safely removed, and it helped lead to a murder conviction in a related shooting. Authorities say 25-year-old Andre Crawford was sentenced to 40 years in prison Thursday for murder and attempted murder. Prosecutors say a wounded security guard identified the shooter in court. The murder weapon wasn't found, but the bullet removed from the survivor matched one removed from the slain guard.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - After a lackluster 1984 debate performance, President Ronald Reagan's advisers said he was "brutalized" by preparations. They determined they needed to "let Ronald Reagan be Ronald Reagan." Some political experts say history lessons are perhaps being applied in South Carolina's Republican gubernatorial primary runoff, with voters deciding next week who'll represent the party this fall.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) - Mayors who gathered at a holding facility for immigrant children at Texas' border with Mexico say that President Trump has failed to address a humanitarian crisis of his own making with an executive order to halt the separation minors from families that are detained crossing the U.S. border illegally. Seattle Mayor and former U.S. attorney Jenny Durkan said Thursday on El Paso's outskirts that immigrant shelters have been overwhelmed by criminal prosecutions ordered by the Trump administration.

CAMDEN, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a South Carolina woman has been charged with murder in the death of another woman found dead inside her car at an intersection. Kershaw County Chief Deputy Jack Rushing said deputies matched the bullet that killed Brenda Coates on Sunday with a gun found in Stacey Catoe's car. Rushing says witnesses also told deputies that they saw Catoe's car driving away from the shooting.
