COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - A group of senators wants more time to discuss a bill lengthening the amount of time authorities can take to finish a background check on someone trying to buy a gun in South Carolina. The Senate Judiciary Committee decided not to vote Tuesday on a bill dealing with the so-called "Charleston Loophole." The bill would extend from three to five days the amount of time federal officials have to check on incomplete information on gun buyers.
YORK, S.C. (AP) - Three jail inmates have been arrested after a guard was attacked at a South Carolina jail. One inmate is charged with shoving a guard at the York County jail Saturday night. Another inmate is accused of throwing a chair at two officers. A third inmate was accused of threatening the officers. There were no serious injuries.
GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a sheriff's deputy has fatally shot a man in South Carolina. Greenville County Sheriff Will Lewis tells news outlets a man wielding a knife was killed after charging at deputies Monday afternoon. He says deputies had been called out for a disturbance and found at least five people in a home who were "potential hostage victims."
LEXINGTON, S.C. (AP) - Sheriff's deputies say four vehicles have been hit by rocks thrown from an interstate overpass in South Carolina. Lexington County deputies say the rocks where thrown between 11 p.m. and midnight Sunday on Interstate 26. No serious injuries have been reported. No arrests have been made. Deputies have increased patrols in the area.
