All Pro center Ryan Kalil signed a 2 year extension with the Carolina Panthers yesterday and that is a great sign for the future of an already strong unit.
Kalil is now under contract until the end of the 2018 season.
"I fell like I have a lot more football and unfinished business here," said Kalil. "Couldn't think of a better place to finish it off than right here at home."
For the 2nd season, the starting five on the offensive line appears to be Michael Oher, Andrew Norwell, Kalil, Trai Turner, and Mike Remmers. That unit only had 3 starters that missed 3 games in 2015 and they were impressive.
They helped the Panthers offense lead the NFL in scoring with 500 points. The Panthers also rushed for 100 yards every game last season at a clip of 142.6 yards per game which was 2nd in the NFL.
Most importantly, they were a huge reason this team won 17 games in 2015.
Now with the cornerstone of the unit back, this offense has the potential to be even better with an even better Cam Newton (which is hard to believe providing he won the MVP last season) and the return of wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin.
In the NFL, you don't pick up where you left off but the return of a solid and hopefully healthy line will go a long way in having a great offense in 2016 and beyond. And now, that beyond includes a 5 time Pro Bowler.
