CHERRYVILLE, NC (WBTV) -

Coming up this weekend, Cherryville High School will play for the 1A North Carolina Baseball Championship at Five County Stadium in Zebulon against Whiteville, the defending state champs in a best of three series.

For the Cherryville community, baseball is a right of passage. Winners of nine state titles passed down from generation to generation.

Fun Fact: Cherryville and Whiteville also faced off for the 1992 state title.

The Ironmen won the title in three games.
