ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) - A set of parents are under investigation by the Department of Social Services after police came to their home and found there were nine children living in the home without electricity or beds.
According to a Rock Hill Police report, the officers were called to a home along the 300-block of Marshall Street Saturday afternoon to the report of children living in poor conditions.
When officers arrived, they found five children inside the home. There was no electricity and no beds for any of the children - who range from 6-months-old to 13-years-old, according to the report.
The home was "infested with roaches" and the home was in "disarray due to cleaning being neglected," the report states.
The children's mother said the electric meter had been removed that day and she needed to get in touch with the landlord to get it replaced. Her husband wasn't at home, but the other four children were with him.
The woman told police the children had eaten about 30 minutes before officers showed up.
According to police, officers contacted DSS due to the living conditions at the home. No charges have been filed.
