Pedestrian dies a month after being struck by vehicle in Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A man has died from his injuries nearly a month after he was hit by a vehicle along a major road in Charlotte.

According to police, 59-year-old Wayne Hilton Ivey "darted" out in front of a vehicle along the 7800-block of Monroe Road on April 19 around 1:31 p.m.

Ivey was transported from the scene by Medic to Carolina’s Medical Center with life-threatening Injuries. After nearly a month in the hospital, he died Monday.

According to police, the section of Monroe Road that Ivey was crossing was not a marked pedestrian crosswalk. There was no pedestrian stop and go signal in this area. 

The driver was not injured in the collision.

This crash is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments Major Crash Investigation Unit.  Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-344-1600 or Detective Steve Williams at 704-432-2169.
