GASTON COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Gastonia woman is facing federal charges after investigators say she helped her son by tampering with witnesses and running prostitution out of her home while he was in jail.
According to court documents, 52-year-old Daphne Pratt was arrested in late April on charges of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of children and influence of a witness.
Pratt's son was behind bars, according to the documents, when she conspired to have prostitution activity at her home and attempted to tamper with evidence in the case against her son by getting someone to falsely claim the gun involved in his case.
The documents say the government's evidence is "disturbing" and includes recorded jail calls from Pratt's son to Pratt.
Pratt has been ordered not to contact her son or any of the four alleged victims. She is being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail as a federal prisoner since the case is connected to South Carolina.
