Cruz suspends

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron at my desk in the WBTV Newsroom.

Ted Cruz is out, Donald Trump is in.  Cruz was soundly defeated by Trump in tonight’s Indiana primary and immediately suspended his campaign.  John Kasich is the only Republican candidate left besides Trump who is likely to run the table and garner the needed 1,237 delegates for his party’s nomination.

On the Democratic side, Bernie Sanders upset Hillary Clinton, but Clinton’s lead in super delegates means she’s a presumptive shoe-in as the DNC’s candidate.

The dangerous defect affecting millions of passenger cars, is now causing havoc for emergency responders.  We’ve learned the threat of exploding airbags has parked several ambulances here in Charlotte and Gastonia.  Our reporter Alex Giles is investigating what it means for your safety in an emergency.

And tonight we’ll show you something you’ve probably never seen before—an alligator ringing the front door bell of a home in Moncks Corner, South Carolina.  What’s next, Gator-nado?

Hail, strong winds and lightning strikes today as a front pushed through the area, but Eric Thomas says we’re going to like the clear air those storms are leaving behind.

Join Eric, Molly Grantham, Delano Little and me for WBTV News at 11:00 tonight!
