CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - After last night's heavy thunderstorms, some showers are still in the area early this morning, but the worst of it is over though with no watches and warnings in effect for severe storms. Most of the WBTV viewing area will be rain-free by 8 a.m., as these leftover showers push off to the east.
But flooding is already causing a road blockage in southeast Charlotte. Two of three lanes are closed on Independence Boulevard at Conference Drive. Ashton Pellom will have updates in a LIVE report.
Today will be another unsettled day, so don't leave home without your umbrella. A cold front will move through and bring more rain and thunderstorm chances, although I'm not expecting the day to be as active as Monday. This afternoon's high will top out close to 80°.
Eve thundershowers will gradually move out and skies will clear out. Overnight lows will drop off into the 50s.
We start to turn a corner on Wednesday with partly sunny skies expected. Highs will scale back to the mid 70s with only a 10% rain chance.
Thursday will be down-right cool. Highs will only make it to the mid 60s. As for rain, there's a 40% chance Thursday afternoon, perhaps even a gusty thunderstorm with hail popping up in a few neighborhoods.
If you're ready to dry out, the end of the week is for you. Friday will feature highs in the low 70s with dry weather. As of now, the weekend also looks nice with low rain chances and highs near 80° Saturday, jumping up into the mid 80s for Mother's Day.
