FORECAST: Much needed rain arrives today, moves out before weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - As a front arrives today, showers will overspread the area. They will be spotty during the morning commute, becoming more widespread during the afternoon.

There could be a rumble of thunder here or there as well. Showers and any storms will be most numerous during the afternoon and early evening, before moving out to our east tonight.

Most areas won't see a soaking rain, likely between .50" to .75" on average, which won't put much of a dent in our 4"+ deficit. But we'll take what we can get. Even with the clouds and rain, we'll still be in the 70s this afternoon, close to average for late April.

Evening showers will pull out quickly to the east, promoting clearing skies overnight with daybreak readings in the 50s.

Saturday brings sunshine and just a few clouds and plenty of sunshine is expected Sunday, so the stage is set for a glorious weekend with highs around 80° and low humidity both days.

Our weather will likely stay very warm early next week, with afternoon readings back into the 80s into at least Thursday.
