ROCK HILL, SC (WBTV) -

A puppy is recovering after deputies say someone mutilated the young animal by cutting its genitals and burning them.

According to the York County Sheriff's office, the incident happened along the 2800-block of Gordon Road, in Rock Hill, over the weekend.

The owner of the three-month-old puppy says the brown and white beagle pit bull mix had gotten out of its kennel and he found the dog injured.

According to the report, someone cut the puppy's fur and burned his genitals. The puppy was taken to a veterinarian for treatment.  Deputies checked on the puppy the next day and was told the puppy was recovering.

The puppy was slated for additional treatment during the week for his injuries.

Deputies say they don't have a suspect in the case, but the person is facing an ill treatment of animals (torture) charge.
