LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) - Lincoln County authorities say a man wanted for larceny tried to elude a sheriff's deputy and crashed his truck into a guard rail.
James Williams Jenkins IV of Lincolnton was wanted in Gaston County for misdemeanor larceny and trespassing. As Jenkins was crossing into Lincoln County on Highway 150 Tuesday morning, a deputy on patrol spotted his truck and tried to pull him over.
The sheriff's office says Jenkins turned onto Tin Mine Road traveling at a high speed, came back across Gastonia Highway onto Southside Road and crashed into a guard rail at the sharp turn where the road turns into South Fork Road. The pursuit covered a distance of three miles.
Jenkins, who was not injured in the crash, was arrested and taken to jail.
In addition to the outstanding charges in Gaston County, he is now charged with felony speeding to elude arrest and several other misdemeanor charges and traffic violations.
