NEWTON, NC (WBTV) -

An embezzlement investigation is underway at a local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police after the lodge's president noticed money was missing from the group's account.

According to the Newton Police Department, the president of Catawba County FOP Lodge #26 contacted police on March 23 concerning "possible embezzlement."

Police say they are working in conjunction with the Catawba County Fraternal Order of Police, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the District Attorney’s Office.

WBTV is asking additional questions about the investigation. Officials say it is currently "continuing."
