CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - They're sometimes more polarizing than politics. Peeps; you love 'em or you hate 'em.
"I think I loved them as a kid just because I loved any candy," Erica Vasile, who now considers the confectionery treat something worthy of only a dumpster.
The marshmallow candies come in shapes ranging from baby chicks to Christmas trees and every flavor in between, including Sour Watermelon.
Peeps were first born in Bethlehem, PA to a company "Just Born". The confection has changed a lot over the years, from a simple baby chick with wings, to lots of different shapes and sizes. The former wings of chicks have been removed to streamline the shape.
"They're a great childhood classic," said one woman who's a Peeps fan or #TeamPeep if you will. While many people absolutely love the sugary shapes, some people loathe them. Whole groups on Facebook are devoted to #PeepHate.
No matter how many haters, Peeps are almost a cult classic and don't stand much of a chance of disappearing any time soon.
