ROWAN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Three people, including a couple with a child, were arrested in an undercover drug sting in Rowan County. Investigators say child abuse charges were filed after the couple brought their baby to a drug deal.
According to the Rowan County Sheriff's Office, 22-year-old Jacob Adam Hatley, 26-year-old Derek Ryan Talbert and 25-year-old Samantha Denise Beach were arrested Wednesday as part of an undercover sting operation. The trio was reportedly found with more than 28 grams of Oxycodone.
All three were charged with conspiracy to traffick in more than 28 grams of opium/heroin.
Hatley was additionally charged with trafficking by possession and transportation of more than 28 grams of opium/heroin. Talbert was also charged with maintaining a vehicle for keeping and selling controlled substances and misdemeanor child abuse. Beach was additionally charged with possession of eight doses of Clonazepam and misdemeanor child abuse.
Investigators say the child abuse charge was the result of Talbert and Beach bringing their nine-month old child with them during a "drug transaction."
The Rowan County Department of Social Services was made aware of the incident and the child was turned over to a responsible family member.
All three were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
