Night of wrecks

Hi everyone, this is Paul Cameron at my desk in the WBTV Newsroom.

It’s been a night of wrecks.  A rescue ambulance overturns in Gaston County while 8 vehicles piled-up on I-485 near I-77 in north Mecklenburg, snarling traffic for hours.  Ice and wet roads are to blame for more of the accidents.

Also, I-77 is closed in both directions near Exit 73, (US-421) due to multiple crashes in the area. The roadway is expected to reopen by 1:00 AM.

The freezing rain that fell in late afternoon should warm and turn into heavy rain by morning.  Eric Thomas is refining his First Alert Forecast for 11:00.  Eric says by weekend, we’ll be pushing 70 degrees.

1,200 people to find themselves out of work at two Freightliner plants.  It’s the second layoff in a month for Daimler.

The Grammy Awards were particularly terrific tonight.  I was moved by many performances, but none more than the Eagles tribute to the late Glen Frey with Jackson Browne singing the song Browne and Frey collaborated on—Take It Easy.  Original band member Bernie Leadon also performed with Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmidt.  Amazing.

Please join Eric, Molly Grantham, Delano Little and me for WBTV News at 11:00!
