Concert to honor wounded veterans to be held

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

It’s not often we get the chance to honor the men and women who have served our country only to return wounded and in need of special help. But next week you can be a part of a first, the Charlotte Stands for Heroes concert.

The Hood Hargett Breakfast Club is presenting the two-day event. It will give thirty wounded veterans, most of them from North Carolina, what is described as, ‘an experience of a lifetime.'

The event, will raise money for the Bob Woodruff Foundation. In 2006 Woodruff, who had just been named anchor for World News Tonight, suffered a traumatic brain injury while covering the war in Iraq. As he fought to recover, he and his wife created the foundation as a way to fund, create and design programs for veterans who are injured while serving our great country.

This is the first time this event has been hosted in Charlotte. The fundraiser has been hugely successful across the country.

Veterans and their families will begin their experience Tuesday February 16 with a private event at Bank of America Stadium. They will enjoy ‘The Carolina Panthers Experience’ and a tribute to the veterans.

Wednesday, Modern Salon and Spa at Philips Place is closing its doors to the public from 8:00am until 12:30pm to host the veterans and their guests for a day of pampering. They will also get ‘glammed up’ for the night’s big concert. Guests will enjoy their spa and salon treatment at no cost.

At 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, the red carpet will be rolled out for the veterans at Knight Theater where the ‘Charlotte Stands for Heroes Benefit Concert’ will feature Darius Rucker, comedian Sinbad and the 2015 runner-up of The Voice, Meghan Linsey.

Matt and Ramona from 107.9 The Link will be working the red carpet talking with guests as they arrive.

Once they’ve arrived the veterans and their guests will be honored with a private reception hosted by Bob Woodruff and his wife, Lee. At the reception several Panthers legends and current players will join the VIP reception for an intimate opportunity to thank the thirty vets and their families personally.

The culmination will be the concert. Grammy award winning artist Darius Rucker, Sinbad, and Meghan Linsey have all donated their time to be a part of this special evening recognizing the sacrifices made by our veterans wounded at war.

Ticket sales, auction dollars and any donations made that evening will benefit veterans served by the Bob Woodruff Foundation. To date the BWF has reached more than two million service members, support personnel, veterans and their families.
