CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Bank robberies are common in Charlotte. But most stick-ups happen with crooks wearing some sort of mask or disguise. And that's what makes this robbery so unusual - the bad guy was either very bold, or not very smart.
He certainly didn't care.
At 10:45 on a Monday morning, an undisguised man walked into the Fifth Third Bank on Highway 51 and simply handed the teller a note.
"(It) threatened violence on the note," said Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police (CMPD) Detective Tori Roddey. "Saying he has a firearm and he would use it unless she gave the money up."
Surveillance pictures got a clear look at the man's face. He's dressed in a sweatsuit and running shoes. He also wore a distinctive hat.
"He had a unique green hat on with a gold emblem on it," Detective Roddey said.
Beyond the hat, there was something police noticed about the robber's face.
"There's something underneath his left eye," Detective Roddey said. "I don't know if it's a tattoo, birthmark or something, but he had a distinguishing mark under his left eye."
Unfortunately, no one saw him as he made his getaway.
Police say he's about 5'8" in height and between 35 and 40 years old. His note said he had a weapon, but he never showed it.
