CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

It took longer than he expected, but Greg Olsen's "Super Bowl" beard is officially gone.

Olsen grew the beard during the Panthers historic run towards Super Bowl 50, but freely admitted that it wasn't his style.

"I was like, 'Okay I'm not going to shave as long as we're winning' and then we lost and we were 15 and 1," he told WBTV in December. "I couldn't show my face in that locker room if I was clean shaven and something happened in the playoffs."

The Panthers continued to win, until being defeated in the Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos Sunday night.

"No. It's terrible," he said smiling in December. "It's not for me. It's just not my thing, but I'm a big believer in the greater good. Hopefully the day after the Super Bowl this thing is long gone. That will be a fun shave.”

Tuesday morning, he still had the beard. He addressed the media while the team cleaned out the locker room Tuesday morning.

Shortly after, the beard was gone.

Olsen had some fun while shaving and took photos of the beard in different stages including a goatee, a Fu Manchu, a mustache and a pencil-thin mustache.

Oh - and the center photo.... awww.
